Jason Michael Krasley, 47, of Upper Milford Township, was charged after an investigation found that he stole $5,500 in cash while in the 1300 block of Chew Street in May 2019, following a drug bust, according to the district attorney's office.
Krasley pocketed the money from a stash of $16,000 found in the basement ceiling of the Washington Barbershop, located at 1129 Hamilton Street, which was used as a front for drug trafficking, the district attorney's office said. Cocaine, drug paraphernalia, and other items related to drug trafficking were also seized by police at that time.
Several Allentown police officers, including Krasley, were present when the barber shop was searched, according to the news release.
As part of the investigation, a photo was taken of an inventory receipt dated Thursday, May 16, 2019 representing that the $16,000 in cash was taken in the bust, the news release states. Later, a second inventory receipt was completed at the Allentown Police Vice Office that reported only $10,500 had been recovered.
The money was recounted and $5,500 was missing, according to the district attorney's office. Investigators determined that Krasley stole the money.
Krasley surrendered to police on Friday, Nov. 15, the news release states. He was charged with:
- Theft by Unlawful Taking - Movable Property.
- Receiving Stolen Property.
- Tamper with Physical Evidence.
He was released on $100,000 unsecured bail, according to court documents. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 5
